WHAT TO EXPECT

Coach Licata brings a special level of intensity, passion, and focus to each session that delivers high-level results. His training is tailored to each individual athlete’s needs, unlike many one-size-fits-all group models. As an elite-level thrower, Coach knows the specific feelings of the throw and has the unique ability to break down even the most complex technical nuances into simple cues and drills that athletes can understand how to execute and the reasoning to do so.

Private training is for serious athletes who want to push themselves to their potential and commit to throwing far. It is open to athletes of any age who are just starting to learn or for seasoned athletes looking to get to the next level. The off-season is the time to step up your game and shock your teammates and competitors when the season comes around.

Sessions are typically 90 minutes long, where Coach will provide premier feedback and education through organized drills, demonstrations, film review, and technical cues to fix inefficiencies and develop your technique to throw farther. You will have a clear path on what you need to work on when you finish your session and go home. Coach can also instruct your future training with comprehensive workout or lifting plans and provide expertise about recruiting and the college process.

Training sessions are typically conducted at Coach’s house in Hunterdon County, NJ. Local high schools in the Northern NJ area may also be used. Implements are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own. A consultation through Zoom, FaceTime, or over the phone will be done prior to the first training session.

As legendary Princeton Head Coach Fred Samara told Licata during a home recruiting visit in 2017, “I can give you all the tools, but you have to do the work.” If you are ready to work, then Coach Licata is excited for this amazing journey ahead.

TECHNICAL ANALYSIS

Coach Licata understands that not everyone is located in or near NJ and still wants to provide throwing expertise to those seeking it out. With the purchase of a technical analysis, Coach will review one of your throwing videos and send back a very detailed review that includes what to work on and how to do so.

TESTIMONIALS

“The throws coaching CJ gave me was very different from other personal coaches I've had in the past. It seemed very personal and he really adapted to my style of throw. I saw almost immediate results after a few sessions. What I thought was really valuable was how he hammered down the point that consistency is key, which motivated me to stick to it and trust that his coaching will make me better.

My first interaction with CJ was actually to ask questions about recruiting, and he went above and beyond in answering those questions. He gave me schools which I should target and how to reach out to those coaches. He is well known in collegiate throwing, and has good relations with many of the coaches I reached out to. Overall, CJ has been a huge part in propelling my young throwing career into something bigger than I would've ever thought before his coaching.”

“Cj did an amazing job of breaking down the technique into multiple smaller parts. He gave me drills and warmups that dramatically improved my throw. CJ was extremely accessible in providing amazing help over the phone with film analysis. If I sent him a poor throw, he would text or call me explaining ways I could improve my throw to mitigate the specific mistake. If I sent CJ an amazing throw, he would tell me exactly why it was a good throw and also include drills that help me focus on the parts of my throw that were good! CJ was impressive with the way he went about coaching me.”

“CJ's knowledge of the throws is unmatched. He has a natural ability to effectively communicate ideas, prioritize the most important corrections, and motivate his athletes. The implementation of drills has been a key component of my training with CJ from my first session through the work we do now. His own technical demonstration is priceless and watching a thrower like CJ demonstrate cues has taught me so much about the throw.

You can learn a lot about recruiting from an athlete who's been through the process and knows the fine details. CJ recommended I check out the program I eventually landed at! You won't find someone who knows how to throw the shot put at a high level better than CJ.”
